January – February

Festivals are an important part of our tradition. These colorful events are celebrated for the glorification of Krishna in his different forms and incarnations.

Sri Advaita Acharya

24 January 2018
Sri Advaita Acharya's appearance day

Sri Advaita Acharya was the first among the associates of Lord Chaitanya and he appeared within this material world some sixty years before Lord Chaitanya's own advent to deliver the conditioned souls. It was Advaita Acharya who asked Lord Chaitanya to descend. Before Lord Chaitanya's advent, Advaita Acharya had already begun chanting Krishna's names in the streets with devotees and discussing scriptures on devotional service to Krishna. Advaita Acharya's name indicates that He is advaita – i.e., nondifferent from Lord Hari (Krishna), and He is called Acharya (spiritual master) because He taught bhakti in all directions. Advaita Acharya lived in Shantipur and Mayapur, in what is now West Bengal, and was the head of the Vaishnava community of Nadia.

Lord Varahadeva

28 January 2018
Lord Varahadeva's appearance day

Sri Krishna appeared as Varahadeva, a boar incarnation, to lift the earth from the nether regions of the universe - out of Pluto's region of filthy matter. Picking up something from a filthy place is done by a boar, and the all-powerful Personality of Godhead displayed this wonder to the asuras, the demons, who had hidden the earth in such a filthy place.

One of his major achievements was the distribution of the Goswami literature in Bengal and Orissa – something that noone had done before.

Srila Bhaktisiddhanta Saraswati Thakura
14 February 2018
Srila Bhaktisiddhanta Saraswati Thakur's appearance day

Srila Bhaktisiddhanta Saraswati Thakura, the spiritual master of His Divine Grace A.C. Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada, is one the greatest teachers in our disciplic succession. He firmly established Krishna consciousness as the essence of the Vedic teachings and opened 64 temples in India. The deep sense of urgency he felt to propagate the divine teachings of Lord Chaitanya for the benefit of the suffering humanity is exemplified in the indomitable conviction of his statement: "If fire burns the whole world, do not waste time trying to put it out. All necessities can be met only by serving Krishna."
